a twister in the metro
it's been 11 years. long enough for us to forget what it was like seeing our city come to a stand still-classes in all levels suspended, work in all government offices suspended, train operations cancelled. you would have thought that it was a national holiday if not for the winds howling like a hundred dogs, the trees bowing until its leaves reach the pavement and debris flying everywhere.
working in a utility company required us to go to work. but it seemed that loyalty to the song lyrics that said "umulan man o bumagyo" wasn't the wisest thing to do. we deliver electricity but our own building didn't have one. we had nothing to do except watch from our windows where the trees were falling, hoping that our cars wouldn't be hit by one. for several hours we were trapped.
finally, the storm passed and we had a chance to see the damage. i took some videos and pictures for documentation. i felt bad about the trees. these trees were a welcome site in an urban jungle. and i can't imagine Christmas in meralco with lesser lights hanging on trees brightening up and setting the tone for chilly december nights.
for the next couple of days we'll see the exact toll of this storm. as i was browsing the on-line news there were some lives lost aside from the expected destruction and lost of property. we'll suffer a lot-physically and economically but i believe in the Filipino spirit always rising after being down. let's begin rebuilding!!!
