blessed are the children

A few months back, I helped two friends distribute school supplies in one of the Gawad Kalinga sites in Manila. Rina and Allan were migrating to Qatar and their idea of a despedida party was being with their friends and sharing their blessings to the less fortunate kids of Hiyas Ng Maynila. It was a very special day for all of us. It's a different feeling being with kids and we just felt their great appreciation for our short visit. In response, they prepared a program for all of us to enjoy. They sang, dance and especially prayed with us. On one part of the program, Rina asked the kids a special favor. She asked them to pray for them so that they can have their own child. One of the facilitators there immediately responed. He said. "Rina your wish will come true. Everyone who asked that special favor here, has been granted their wish. Including myself."

Just this morning I received a text from Qatar. Rina said:

"hi lanie and gli, please extend our thanks to the
kids of hiyas ng maynila, their prayers have been
granted. I'm 12 weeks pregnant..."

rock on!

This show keeps me stoked on wednesday and thursday nights. I've been a fan of a number of reality-based shows, but this one I can totally relate to (not that i can sing like them, :P). The songs and the performances are what I really crave for. Unlike in American Idol. My favorite is Marty. He's the reincarnation of the grunge movement. He can be Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder and Scott Weiland all at the same time. Jordis' voice is both sweet and powerful. Ty is dramatic and theatric. Jessica isn't that talented but is very hot. Mig, the Pinoy-Aussie, can be the dark horse, but needs some luck and the always powerful Pinoy-texters.
